A MAN file denotes a help file that is also referred to as a Man Page. This file is used by the Man utility on the Unix Operating System, though Man pages on the Unix rarely ever use the MAN extension and often use a numerical extension (such as .1) instead.
The file can be viewed within Unix shell.
